I am intrigued by the Village Green being used as a venue . I use the green every day as a dog walker and have done for many years. Pleasant though it is , it is unfortunately hardly a haven for wildlife. The wildflower area is somewhat sparse this year and I have only seen two butterflies this year, one brimstone and a tortoiseshell.. You may struggle to spot many insects, there used to be stag beetles and cockchafers, but I haven’t seen any this year. We do have some nice lichens on the trees.and a rare liverwort on the wall leading to Arford from the village hall. There are birds in the shrubbery on the edge of the green and bluetits and wagtails often nest in the Village hall.Deer and badgers both come out on the green at night.
Wishing you the best of luck. R. Schofield
Thanks for commenting Rosemary. This is all about kick starting our project to create more space for nature and trying to get as many people in the community as possible engaged and contributing. It sounds like you have some fantastic insights so I really hope you come along to talk to us.. One of the things we will be encouraging people to do is to record the nature they can identify in their own gardens or local patch so we can build a picture of what we have in the area. Ultimately, we are working towards ensuring there is more wildlife in Headley in the future. Hopefully see you on Saturday to discuss in more detail!
