IS ALTON PREPARED FOR THE NEXT HEATWAVE? Open Forum Event
June 2023 was the hottest on record in the UK. The year 2023 is set to be the hottest on record globally. Heatwaves are increasing in frequency and severity. Whilst some welcome the heat, it can be uncomfortable or even dangerous for others, such as the elderly or those in poor health. Hot weather puts a strain on our infrastructure, health services and green spaces, including the risk of wildfires and melting tarmac.
ACAN is delighted to welcome a team of speakers from the Petersfield Society and PeCAN (ACAN’s sister organisation Petersfield Climate Action Network) who are experts in the built and natural environment. ACAN’s Jenny Griffiths, a former public health professional, will join them. The purpose of the meeting is to share practical ways in which we can prepare our homes, gardens and local environment for hotter weather. There will be ample time for questions and discussion.
Speakers:
Andy Moffat – Trustee of Petersfield Society, Convenor of Green Infrastructure Group
Peter Moss – Trustee of PeCAN, Project Leader for Petersfield SuperHomes
Melanie Oxley – Trustee of PeCAN, Project Leader for Engaging with Nature Recovery
Jenny Griffiths – Trustee of ACAN, former Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health
Bar open from 7.00 pm. Meeting starts at 7.30 pm.
