Action on Plastics and Waste

Litter Patrol

This group came into existence during lockdown. Its litter patrols have proved a wonderful way to get out for some value added exercise, not only picking up litter but also talking to passers by attracted by our ACAN hi viz jackets.

The group is working on a directory of what can be recycled where, while lobbying the council to improve its own provision and to increase awareness of what can and cannot be recycled.

However to really tackle the problem the source needs to be addressed. To quote Pete Seeger:

“If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production.”

This group has its work cut out!
