BACK ON THE RACK IS BACK AND IT’S FESTIVE!

Students from Eggar’s School volunteered to sort piles of donated pre-loved clothes in Alton Eco-Café, in preparation for Young ACAN’s fourth clothes swap on Friday 24th November, 3.30 – 6.00 pm at Alton Maltings Centre (GU34 1DT).   The suggested age range is 4-18.

Young ACAN (the youth group of Alton Climate Action Network) is excited to announce that this is its first Young ACAN partner event with support from each of its 13 partner schools in Alton and local villages, as well as Alton College, sending out a strong message that we are working together to help tackle the climate crisis.

Emma Jones who leads Young ACAN said, “Back on the Rack first started in 2022 thanks to funding from the National Lottery. The aim is to provide young people in our community with a sustainable alternative to fast-fashion. This time, “Back on the Rack” has a seasonal theme – it’s a festive clothes swap! We are therefore asking you to donate clean, good-quality pre-loved winter clothes especially Christmas jumpers, warm winter coats and clothes and party wear. Your donations can be left at your child’s school if they have a drop-off point or at Alton Maltings from Monday 20th November.  The event coincides with the Alton Christmas Lights Switch on, so come along and support both events.”

Apart from offering festive clothing, there will be a cafe and upcycling/repair zone providing inspiration to get creative with pre-loved clothes, as well as offering advice about repairs.

The entire event is organised by ACAN volunteers supported by the Young ACAN ambassador team and students from Amery and Eggars. The clothes are free but we would appreciate donations to enable us to organise further Back on the Rack events.
