Deepening Alton’s connection to the South Downs National Park: report of ACAN’s Nature’s Neighbours project

Alton is located on the edge of the glorious South Downs National Park, with the boundary at the Chawton end of the town. A recent project in ACAN’s Eco-Streets community outreach programme aimed to familiarise local residents with the importance of this wonderful landscape on their doorstep, and inspire stewardship of this precious area.

Thanks to a grant from the South Downs National Park, ecologist and Eco-Streets lead Scott Gudrich led our 12-month “Gateway” project, Nature’s Neighbours, offering residents nature walks and creative experiences as a way of engaging emotionally with the landscape around them.
