Speakers:

John Hubbard, Chair of Energy Alton

Doug Johnson, Director of Mesh Energy

will present Energy Alton’s new guide on cleaner home heating based on surveys of 5 different exemplar homes in Alton

Home heating from fossil fuels (gas/oil/coal) contributes about a third of fossil fuel emissions in the UK and has to be drastically reduced to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Retrofitting existing homes requires choices about the alternatives to fossil fuel heating.

The guide includes

  • Practical considerations such as space, noise, location
  • Financial information (range of installation costs, running costs, potential payback periods, impact on house prices)
  • Range of carbon savings
  • Advice on grants and finding installers

Energy Alton gratefully acknowledges the support of Alton Town Council, Community Energy South (CES), East Hampshire District Council, Mesh Energy and the five homeowners participating in the project.
