Riverfly – Invertebrate sampling in the River Wey in Flood Meadows

Join an enthusiastic group of AVLAN volunteers at 10.00 am on Saturday 14th February 2026 for about an hour.  We will be kick-sampling for invertebrates, such as cased caddis, freshwater shrimp and mayfly larvae, which are all indicators of water quality.

It’s interesting and fun!

We usually kicksample in Flood Meadows (near the bridge down the path from the entrance on the Basingstoke Road).   The River Wey is a Winterbourne, and has been naturally dry near its source from late summer,  until recently when the water table has risen after the rain and the springs have started to flow again.
